As promised this blog isn't all about my NBA picks so today I want to share my opinion on other bet/picks blogs.

nbadailypicks is one of the NBA picks blogs that I've found out and I'm astonished with the number of visitors (roughly 7K a month = that's a lot in my opinion) they have.
It isn't the first time I leave a comment there in one of the daily posts, but today I left this one (regarding the LA Clippers -3 pick):

"That pick makes zero logic! You should avoid posting the ATS stats etc. Line opened at -3.5 and with 74% of the bettors on the Clippers the line dropped to -3.....and you still pick that?? With the starts out (CP3 and Griffin)in the LA formation and with the Wizards covering 7 out of 10 ATS in the last 10 games....and you still pick that?

You always pick the obvious one...every single day!
Sincerely what's the point of this blog?? Is it to show that a chase system might work even with a negative record???"

The Pistons are just 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. The Bucks on the other hand are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 2 days rest and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.

Pistons have won both meetings between the two this season (96-94 & 103-87 in Milwaukee). I'm not seeing the bucks losing this one.....unless they sh*t the bed like vs the Cavs (giving up a late 20 point lead).

Both teams are prone to have low scoring quarters, so I just need one of those and they will stay below the 200 mark!

Chicago are now 26-17 on the season and 14-11 at home where they've won four of their last five. Meanwhile, the Bobcats had lost eight of their last nine and they play their next five on the road, four of which are against opponents over .500. The bulls defense will take care of the game and this should end up easily below the 185 mark.

NETS -9

Brooklyn Nets are one of the hottest teams in the league right now and the Magic will have a hard time to keep up. With seven wins of their last ten games the Nets have dropped their last two in a row, falling to the Rockets on Saturday and the Grizzlies on Friday, both on the road. This is the first game back home for Brooklyn after a tough four game road schedule, and with a day of rest in between look for the Nets to be rested to face the Magic tonight.

The line is set a little too high and that alone caught my attention. Then I saw that initial bettors are playing the under so I was getting more intrigued and decided to study the numbers for this situation.

Average CLOSING TOTAL LINE in the past 10 games between these two teams is 187.4 and now they are setting it at 10 points more??? Detroit scored just 74 points at Orlando (21st November) with 32.9 FG% and again I wonder why did they set the line so high at 197 with -5 for Detroit?? I guess it's pretty obvious that the books expect a performance at least as good as vs the Celtics two days ago. So even if a little risky I'm riding the OVER. 

BUCKS -7

Since Jim Boylan replaced Scott Skiles as the head coach the Bucks won five of their last 7 games. They are a different team (special attention to recent performance of Ersan Ilyasova, Brandon Jennings). 
Meanwhile, the Sixers have lost seven of their last nine and arrive Milwaukee "broken" after coming back from a 17-point deficit to lead by seven, only to fall back behind and losing by 90-85 vs the Spurs yesterday.

Head to head, the Bucks beat the Sixers by 105-96 on Nov 12 and they are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings overall.
I'm riding the team with good momentum!

Feel very strong about the Pacers. This should be a tough match for the home team considering that the Rockets will play with revenge in mind (102-104 Loss at home January 4th) but the line says me otherwise. Pacers are strong at home (15-3) and they should cover the spread on both half's.

Over at Philadelphia and Over at Boston (halftime): just my attempt to ride these lines that were set a tiny bit low.

Testing old systems

Yesterday I went on a math spree and figured it out some interesting things regarding my season if I was to use Labby Lines since the start.

For those of you that aren't familiar with Labby Systems I suggest a research after my brief explanation.

LABBY

Instead of flat betting or alternating your units per play regarding the strength/confidence you divide the units to play in a line and start scratching them off after a win. Example - Imagine your unit size 1u = $100 and that you never bet more than 4 games at once; you will start with something like this:

Line 1# 50-50-50-50
Line 2# 50-50-50-50
Line 3# 50-50-50-50
Line 4# 50-50-50-50

Bet 1# Win
Bet 2# Lose
Bet 3# Win
Bet 4# Lose


All of your bets were $110 to win $100. So after the games your lines are something like this:


Line 1#  -50-50-
Line 2# 50-50-50-50-110
Line 3#  -50-50-
Line 4# 50-50-50-50-110

Next time you are making a bet to clear the numbers of Line 2# you will bet $xxx to win $165 (depending on your odds,if it were -110 or 1.91, you would have to bet $181 to win $165). And this will continue until you scratch all the numbers of your lines.
I hope it was clear enough.

Now, back to my numbers this season:

SEASON UNITS WON (if using Labby Lines): +27.74 units 

So that's a hoping +489% more in units than my current unit betting system (+5.56u). And my system (1u to 5u a play) is better than flat betting (-2.73u if I was betting 1u per play).

My hit ratio is 51,67% = crap, but add that to 4 of the last 5 years betting the nba with hit ratios over 52% and I'm really tempted to start using a labby line for my bets the rest of the season but with some restrictions.

Really late post but couldn't write it earlier.

Rockets -1.5 HT
Good game yesterday by the Clipps at Memphis as a road dogs (+4.5) winning straight up by 26 points!!! So why going against them tonight in a possible easier game for them? The reason? Or at least my reason, the line set by bookies. Seems like a trap and add that to possible fatigue etc...  =  I like my odds of rolling with the rockets for the first half.

Again is the line set by the books that make me take this one. Is just a little off (high) and that makes me doubt the UNDER so I think that with a good first half (both teams have showed that they can score) we will see a 106~110 points first half.

Some write ups for January 11th plays

Nets -7

These guys are used to beat teams like the Cats, Wiz, Cavs...so the Suns shouldn't be a trouble for them and they sure don't get the lack of motivation that some prima donnas of the beach have ;)

Nets are looking to get their 5th consecutive win and the Suns with their awful away record ( 2W-16L ) are the perfect opponent. The line is a little high but the Nets should cover with ease.


Bulls @ Knicks UNDER 191

Line is already at 192.5 and that made me hesitate for a little bit in buying back and losing some juice...but I still feel confidence enough in the play to let it ride. I'm expecting a defensive game by the Bulls and a less than average 3 point shooting % for the Knicks.

There's something fishy with the line movement, opening at 191.5 then staying almost all day at 191 and then directly up to 192.5, when these both teams combined have an average of 198.2 (Knicks 103.2 at home and Bulls 95 away)!

Lousy ass night yesterday....don't even have words for that second half!!

Raptors 8-1 in the past 9 games with very good performances by Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan and Jose Calderon. In my opinion this is the perfect spot for the 4th consecutive win for the Raptors. The Kings are in good form/momentum also but not as good!

Home crowd will push their team fwd since the start and the Kings without some key players make me play this one: home team minus the points for the first half.

If you follow the thread you already know that yesterday I went 2-2 losing the juice -0.27 units. I was a little wuss and should just stayed and hammered the Raptors,Oh well....

Tonight plays:

With 7 wins in a row (5 away) and with the second best record of the league (26W - 8L) it's fair to say that the SPURS are in top form (specially all-star veteran  Tim Duncan: 18PPG, 9.8RPG and 2.5BPG). They are the highest scoring team playing away from home (105.8 points), 3rd best 3PT% (39.6) and 2nd eFG% (54.1), all these stats show that every player in this team knows how to shoot.

I'm not expecting any rest for key players by Popovich, because this road trip just started yesterday and ends tonight at Madison Square Garden.

After a overwhelming start, the KNICKS have shaken a bit in recent games losing their last 2 games and losing their last two home games. But we have to keep in mind that they still seat top at 2nd place in the Eastern Conference.

The last Knicksgame had a huge hype especially due to the return of Amar'e Stoudemire. But things didn't go well on his return after injury. We saw a slow Stoudemire, struggling on defense, scoring just 6 points and no offensive rebound.

Looking back to the game played at San Antonio 2 months ago (Knicks won 104-100). we saw that the Spurs were able to put a lot of difficulties to Carmelo Anthony, who finished with only 9 points. Despite the Spurs finishing the game with inside game superiority and in fast break points, the Knicks greater efficacy of the triple line turned out to be crucial, getting them to recover from a disadvantage of 12 points.
In my opinion tonight the game will be different.  The Spurs now have better arguments and the Knicks are without two key players (Felton, who finished the game with 25 points and 7 assists, and Rasheed who finished with 10 points and 3 rebounds).

Thus, I believe that the Spurs have more quality to get the rematch and defeat the Knicks tonight. As I mentioned, I do not expect savings by Popovich, nor is the fact of Stoudemire playing affects the way how I predict the game to be played out.

Recap Plays of January 2

Yesterday's plays not that good, 2-2! I'm not complaining for going evens on my picks and losing the juice...is just I was really confident on my TORONTO plays specially the -3.5 for the game and I regret not sticking to it and just put the other 3 units I've played on totals on the Raptors.

Also there was something wrong with the Hornets x Rockets total line....and instead of buying it back I let it roll, damn it!

Today just two games...so far leaning Denver minus the points.

Last game of the Toronto Raptors was a 123-88 WIN in Florida vs the Orlando Magic, so with 3 days rest and playing at home I'm expecting a strong game by Kyle Lowry, Calderon, DeRozan and company. Portland made a good away game yesterday when they beat the Knicks (105-100) but it was a thought game for the Blazers throwing away a 19 point lead and I'm expecting a tired team unable to stop most of the plays by Derozan and Lowry.

Introduction

Decided to give it a go in this blog "thing". I'm a regular at sports betting forums (check my thread here) for the last 4 or 5 years and I've learned a lot on them, but I feel I should share more (write ups of the daily picks, gambling adventures, etc.) and get some other type of feedback from readers/posters --> that's why I'm making the blog.

I've been profitable in 3 of the last 4 years betting the NBA and should by now bet the hoops with a much bigger roll than the one I have but it has been a long (over a decade) adventure of bad gambling decisions (as 90% of the suckers of online poker I also tried to be a pro player just to find out after so many tilts that I couldn't handle swings and bad beats; blackjack, roulette and craps stupid adventures etc etc).

I hope to be as disciplined writing in the blog daily as I have been in my bets (not chasing, strong bank management) this year.
